PSG's Jese plays down Thiago Silva clash, wants to help fill Zlatan void

Jese
Paris Saint-Germain new-boy Jese Rodriguez has played down a clash with new teammate Thiago Silva at the International Champions Cup over the summer.
Jese, 23, played in Real Madrid's 3-1 defeat to PSG in the United States and was the victim of a wild tackle from captain Thiago Silva, which resulted in a hip injury for the Brazilian defender.
"I have spoken with Thiago Silva since his injury," he told a news conference as he was unveiled at PSG. "We exchanged messages. He is happy I am here."
The former Spain under-21 international signed a five-year contract at Parc des Princes, tying him to the French champions until 2021 after Les Parisiens paid a fee reported to be around €25 million for his signature to make him their fifth summer signing.
"I'm very happy to join PSG," Jese said at his unveiling. "I come here with the goal of improving. I'm joining a great team and a great club, with fantastic players. We want to win as many titles as possible.
"I watched the club's most recent match, the Trophee des Champions. The team is very strong and gets forward quickly. That's the kind of football I like to play. I can't wait to meet up with my teammates."
Jese, who hails from Las Palmas on the island of Gran Canaria, left Real after almost 10 years at the Bernabeu and admitted that it was hard to leave the club but that the time had come for a change.
"After 10 years with Real Madrid, I wanted to try something new and Paris Saint-Germain gave me the opportunity to join a huge club," he explained. "I spoke a lot with Zinedine Zidane and he filled me with confidence. Thank you to him, to Florentino Perez and to my former teammates.
"I will try to learn French as quickly as I can. PSG has a wonderful history, with many titles; it's a great club and a united team. We want to play for everything and win everything. We hope to do well in the UEFA Champions League."
The forward added that he alone would not be enough to fill the void left by the departure of Zlatan Ibrahimovic to Manchester United. However, he stressed his versatility in attack and the importance of the team playing for each other and not one individual -- a key feature under Emery so far.
"I can play in all four positions in attack," he said. "I'm versatile and can play on the left or the right or in the middle -- but I will play where the coach tells me to. I'm polyvalent.
"Zlatan is a great player. I want to progress and improve so that I can help my new teammates to compensate for his loss."
The Spaniard also admitted that new manager Unai Emery, PSG president and CEO, Nasser Al-Khelaifi, and director of football, Patrick Kluivert, had made a strong case for him to move to Paris.
"A lot of Spanish and English clubs were interested in me," Jese said. "But I'm happy to have joined PSG. I think that the presence of Unai, as well as the conversations I had with the president and Patrick Kluivert, influenced my decision."
PSG kick the new Ligue 1 season off away at SC Bastia on Friday night, though Jese might not be ready to be part of the squad for the trip to Corsica.
